Booth began to follow into his fathers footsteps, and take on the career of an actor. Many of his friends and people that knew him had a strong feeling that he would become an actor.
When John reached the age of 17, he became popular in a play playing a big role in Richard III By William Shakespeare. He started to become so popular and so well known that he soon was invited to travel the world on a world acting tour with a Shakespearean acting company.
Later on into his acting career, in 1862, Booth played the main role in Richard III in New York. This really shot up Booth's popularity in acting. After performing in New York, continuing his tour, Booth caught a very serious illness in the respiratory system, causing him to temporarily leave the tour in 1863. Two years later, being a confederate agent in the Civil War, Booth and his buddies he was with in the war plotted to shoot, and kill Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and William Seward.
